Making Moon Time Bags ...
One in four students struggle to purchase period products, which means they might have to skip school during all or part of their moon time. This is true for Native American students as well. The Kwek Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides period supplies and puberty education materials to many schools and programs across the US that serve Indigenous students including many of the schools with which ANA works. Learn more at kweksociety.org.

ANA is partnering with the Kwek Society by sewing "moon time bags" from the pattern The Kwek Society provides, then filling the bags with period products and mailing them to its partner schools.

You can help by making Moon Time Bags ...
What you need: (Note: please do not skimp on the size of the pieces, as the items that go inside just fit with these measurements)
Two (2) 6 X 6-inch fabric pieces
Two (2) 5 X 6-inch fabric pieces
Steps to complete the bag:
  1. Stack or pin the two (2) 5 X 6-inch fabric pieces on top of each other, wrong side together
  2. Fold each 6 X 6-inch half wrong side inside, creating two (2) 3 X 6-inch pieces (folded)
  3. Place the folded 3 X 6 pieces, folded side to middle, on top of the two (2) 5 X 6 inch pieces. Note: the 2nd 3 X 6-inch piece will overlap the first.
  4. Sew or serge all four (4) sides of the stacked fabric, using 1/4" seams.
  5. Optional: trim corners a small amount.
  6. Turn the finished bag inside out and using a blunt object, push out each of the four corners.
  7. If you would like to see the instructional video, you can access it here
Once completed: Mail your bags to ANA, PO Box 490, Doylestown, PA 18901 OR if you live in the Doylestown area, email [email protected] to arrange for pick up.
For questions: [email protected]
NEW!  Kwek Society is also asking for help making a larger "Auntie Bag."  This will hold a moon time cycle's worth of pads along with other items (fresh underwear or other items).  You can find the directions here.  Once completed, please follow the directions above.

Making Fleece Blankets ...

Making tied fleece blankets for Navajo elementary school children who board at school during the week is a great family project anytime, but especially now as we are staying at home.  Last year ANA had requests for over 100 of these blankets. Making them now will help us be prepared for this school year.

Become an ANA Shopper ...
Throughout the year, volunteer shoppers are needed to purchase items which are requested by school personnel.  Shoppers are contacted by email two or three times a year with needs ... clothing, school supplies, and other items.  These volunteers donate their time and funds allowing ANA to honor the requested needs. For information, please fill out the form below:
